Understanding the environmental footprint of Australian potatoes

Environmental sustainability has become a key driver across the food sector, and the Australian potato industry is no exception. With growing pressure from consumers, regulators and supply chains to demonstrate environmental responsibility, sustainability is no longer a ‘nice to have, but an essential component of doing business and securing future market access.

Recognising this, Hort Innovation has partnered with sustainability consultancy Lifecycles to deliver a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study of the Australian potato industry.

The goal? To understand the environmental footprint of potato production from seed through to fresh market and processing supply chains, and to provide robust, science-based data that supports improvement efforts across the sector.
