Welcome changes to potato target spot resistance strategy

CropLife Australia has released updated resistance management guidelines for target spot in potatoes, providing advice on fungicide use across all stages of production. The revised strategy highlights the risk of seed or in-furrow treatments being followed by foliar applications of SDHI fungicides. The strategy sets out measures to reduce resistance development.

The central principle of the revised strategy is that where a Group 7 seed or in-furrow treatment has been applied, the first foliar fungicide application must not include a Group 7 product.

With an increasing number of Group 7 (SDHI) products now registered for use in Australian potatoes as seed or in-furrow treatments at planting, it is important that all growers and advisers are aware of the updated CropLife resistance management guidelines.

A preventative approach is essential in situations conducive to disease development - not just familiarity with rotating Mode of Action groups.
