Late Blight (Phytophthora infestans)

Late blight, also known as Irish blight is caused by the fungal-like organism Phytophthora infestans, which can exist as two mating types, A1 and A2, each with numerous strains that have developed over time. Late blight in Australia is only caused by a single strain of the A1 mating type, a relic of the original Irish blight pathogen.
