Grower case study: Matt Dean on quality and doing the small things well
For more than four decades, Matt Dean and his wife Jenny have built their fresh potato business on a simple philosophy: quality comes first.
Farming at Howth in north-west Tasmania, Matt and Jen deliberately grow a modest 30 acres of potatoes each year, choosing to focus on producing premium potatoes rather than chasing volume. Every decision, from selecting paddocks and sourcing seed to harvesting, handling and delivery, is made with the customer in mind.
“It's our name – Just Spuds – on the box,” Matt says. "We've got a reputation to keep."
