Mini guide – selected warm weather pests and diseases

During the Australian summer, potatoes are susceptible to various pests and diseases that can thrive in the warm and humid conditions.

Common pests and diseases included in Issue 11 of PotatoLink magazine mini guide:

Pests:

  • African black beetle (Heteronychus arator)

  • Aphids - green peach (Myzus persicae)

  • Cluster caterpillar (Spodoptera litura)

  • Potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella)

  • Thrips - western flower (Frankliniella occidentalis)

Diseases:

  • Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV)

  • Early blight (target spot)

  • Potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVD)

  • Potato virus Y (PVY)
