The Canowindra demosite is up and running! Planted on the 20th of August, the site has focus topic of fertiliser and fungicide trials.

Canowindra demosite, planting the potato crop - 20th August 2021

Soil temperature at 11 degrees Celsius at 15cm at planting

There are a number of planned activities that will be posted to the PotatoLink website, Facebook page and summarised in short case study articles. These include:

• A potassium response trial on a paddock that has tested low on soil potassium. Standard practice and a treatment of an extra 100 kg potassium (total = 190 kg potassium/ha) will be used. Yield, size grading and specific gravity will be assessed

• A magnesium response trial to assess if it increases specific gravity. 20 kg of magnesium was applied post plant, pre-emergence, and another application of 20 kg/ha (total 40 kg/ha) was applied at the tuber initiation stage (~25 cm plants). This will be compared to the standard practice of the site to apply no magnesium.

• Serenade Soil Activ will be demonstrated with and without Amistar fungicide to address “clumping” during processing. Petioles will be taken to compare nutrient uptake. Observations of rhizoctonia, common scab and, yield and grading assessments will be made.

• Fungicide treatmetns between the grower’s standard practice will be demostrated to show imporved control of target spot (early blight). visual assessment and yield differences will be assessed.
