Details: Potatoes are one of the most valuable crops in Tasmania. Rising fertiliser prices and increasing disease risks place pressure on the farmer to maintain yield and profit while leaving our ground in the best shape possible.

Soil First Tasmania has engaged with five growers to trial alternative amendments to their fertiliser program to try and improve the poor uptake of banded fertiliser and soil health. These include manure pellets, mycorrhizal fungi, and humic substances. The results have been very interesting.

We will also be visiting an excellent cover crop trial that is running in front of potatoes. We will walk in multiple cover crops planted by TIA’s Theresa Chapman and Doug Clark, and discuss the benefits and management options for growers.

Come and see the results and contribute to the discussion about fertiliser, cover crops and all things potato.

This event has been arranged by Landcare Tasmania and the Tasmanian Landcare fund.
